More Information
Launched in September 2019, the "Programa de Atención al Adulto Mayor" is a non-profit, community-based initiative that provides weekly primary healthcare to the senior population and people living with disabilities in ten different locations of the Baruta disctrict.

In alliance with several local civil associations and the municipal health superintendence (facilitate the adequate infrastructure), and using local human resources (around thirty trained volunteers who live in each location), the program aims to achieve several objectives:

- provide quality medical attention to the older population that includes treatment for acute conditions, information on the prevention of complications of chronic diseases and the donation of prescribed medication (when available).

- elaborate a census of each patient registering personal data (phone number, home address, email address, cooking methods, first aid kit, water storage, etc.) to create a "vulnerability map" of the district.

- promote the resilience, positive coping strategies, the humanitarian principles and the inclusion of older people in the community through volunteer work.

- evaluate nutritional, cognitive, disability and cardiovascular status of the older population for the purpose of creating a reliable database for the development of health policies aimed at this group.

The program evaluates around 100-120 patients each month with a follow-up rate of around 40%, is permanently looking for posibilities of expansion (whithin the district and in other districts), and has already established itself as a local reference of quality and solidarity among the community.
