Why Miranda 326?

The history of Venezuela and the history of the United States intersect in the figure of Francisco de Miranda, Venezuela's most universal son, who fought in the American Revolution in 1781. Now, the history of both countries intersect again.

Francisco de Miranda also fought in the the French Revolution, and in the Spanish American Wars of Independence. He is known as the Great Universal American.

January 3, 2026 was the day a country mostly known through its diaspora suddenly became impossible to ignore.

For some it was a moment of genuine surprise; for others it confirmed something they had sensed was coming. Others simply watched, not quite sure what to feel or think.

Venezuela has been almost daily in the news cycle ever since. And events are still unfolding.

Pondering in such an impactful event in the lives of our mission’s beneficiaries, we are opening our third literary call to writers from everywhere in the world to share their own perspectives as if they were telling it to Miranda today. We are calling for submissions in both English and Spanish.

Saludos Connection, a Texas-based non-profit organization works in response to the complex humanitarian emergency in Venezuela through the production of cultural events in Houston.

Though our varied annual Encuentros programs and events such as Holiday Saludos Bazaar and Saludos Hallaca Festival we offer Venezuelan culture and traditions to the Houston communities. We have collaborated with local and foreign artists, writers, filmmakers, actors, chefs, medical professionals, academics, and artisans during the past 10 years.

Once again we are creating an opportunity to build community.

Join us in exploring, and creating another avenue to build community through our Miranda326 Encuentros program that includes the literary call, presentations about Miranda’s life (both in person and virtually), and the presentation of selected writers, and the final publication of the anthology.

We have designed a program to invite creativity in response to current events in relation to Operation Absolute Resolve on January 3, 2026. We see an opportunity to reflect on historical figures. In this case, Francisco de Miranda.

We invite anyone, who is thinking, watching, analyzing, and trying to figure out how world events today connect with us and with our history through short short stories.

¿Por qué Miranda 326?

La historia de Venezuela y la historia de los Estados Unidos se entrecruzan en la figura de Francisco de Miranda —el hijo más universal de Venezuela— quien luchó en la Revolución Americana en 1781. Ahora, la historia de ambos países vuelve a cruzarse.

Francisco de Miranda también luchó en la Revolución Francesa y en las Guerras de Independencia Hispanoamericanas. Es conocido como el Gran Americano Universal.

El 3 de enero de 2026 fue el día en que un país —conocido mayormente a través de su diáspora— se volvió, de repente, imposible de ignorar.

Para algunos fue un momento de genuina sorpresa; para otros, confirmó algo que ya intuían que se avecinaba. Otros simplemente observaron, sin estar del todo seguros de qué sentir o pensar.

Desde entonces, Venezuela ha ocupado un lugar casi diario en el ciclo de noticias. Y los acontecimientos siguen desarrollándose.

Reflexionando sobre un evento de tal impacto en la vida de los beneficiarios de nuestra misión, abrimos nuestra tercera convocatoria literaria a escritores de todo el mundo para que compartan sus propias perspectivas, como si se las estuvieran contando a Miranda hoy mismo. Recibimos propuestas tanto en inglés como en español.

Saludos Connection, una organización sin fines de lucro con sede en Texas, trabaja en respuesta a la compleja emergencia humanitaria en Venezuela mediante la producción de eventos culturales en Houston.

A través de nuestros variados programas anuales de Encuentros —y de eventos como el Holiday Saludos Bazaar y el Saludos Hallaca Festival— ofrecemos la cultura y las tradiciones venezolanas a las comunidades de Houston.
